1. Some directly involved Toronto Chinese churches, organizations, and church leaders have engaged in absurd, even evil, behavior.
1) Example 1:
Pastor Gong Mingpeng must admit his mistakes and undo the damage caused. This “most basic” principle was deliberately ignored.
If Pastor Gong Mingpeng had done so, the subsequent disaster that befell my family would never have occurred. If the churches, organizations, individuals, and groups directly involved in this incident had adhered to this “most basic” principle, my family would not have been subjected to the ongoing destruction within the church for so many years.
However, due to Pastor Gong Mingpeng’s vast network and influence, during the years I sought help and fought, these directly involved churches, organizations, individuals, and groups offered various so-called “spiritual principles” and doctrines, but avoided this “most basic” principle given to and protecting people by God. Even when I emphasized this point, they ignored and no one responded.
2) Example 2:
The nature of my family’s situation is that the pastor destroyed my family, colluding to cover it up and allowing the destruction to continue. This must be stopped. However, the church ignored this point and twisted the doctrine into other directions and interpretations.
The nature of my family’s situation is that Pastor Gong Mingpeng destroyed my family, colluding to cover it up and suppressed me, allowing the destruction to continue. This must be stopped. The detailed facts and incidents I provided make it easy to verify the truth. However, the church ignored this “first and most obvious” principle, failed to verify the facts, and failed to stop the other party’s destructive behavior. Instead, the truth was twisted into other directions, such as seeking God’s will, learning one’s own lessons, waiting on God, obeying, and forgiving.
The result is that the entire fact and truth has been distorted and perverted, artificially obscuring the truth, allowing the destroyers to continue destroying, and the opportunity for the family to be restored has gradually eroded, making the destruction irreversible. This is influenced by “erroneous beliefs,” but the main reason is conforming to power, embracing erroneous beliefs, and not daring to speak “honestly and uprightly.”
3) Example Three:
Failing to “confront” the facts, failing to verify the truth, and directly drawing conclusions when both sides’ statements are completely contradictory, creating injustice, covering up truth and suppression.
When both sides’ statements are completely contradictory, without investigation and verification, without “confronting” the facts, and without distinguishing truth from falsehood, directly drawing conclusions, there is at least a 50% chance that this will lead to confusion of right and wrong and injustice, a truth that everyone understands.
However, Pastor Gong Mingpeng’s “West Toronto Chinese Bible Church ” , “Toronto Chinese Evangelical Ministerial Fellowship- (TCEMF)”, of which he is a key participant, and the “Chinese Coordination Centre of World Evangelism of Canada (CCCWE Canada)“, of which he serves as chairman of the board, disregarded this 50% possibility, and without “confronting” or verifying the truth, directly drew conclusions. They then relied on each other’s strength and endorsed each other, claiming that “Gong Mingpeng is blameless.” They used their power to further oppress my family in injustice and destruction. This isn’t simply ignorance or a conspiracy; it’s an utterly “evil” practice that distorts right and wrong, creates injustice, and exacerbates destruction.
4) Example 4:
“Tell the truth, don’t lie, don’t do evil. —- This is not a high standard for “church leaders”, but the “minimum standard” for being a human being. However, “church leaders” violate this standard.
Tell the truth, don’t lie, don’t violate conscience, don’t do evil, speak honestly and righteously—this isn’t a high standard for “church leaders,” but the “minimum standard” of human conduct.
But Pastor Gong Mingpeng and the church leaders who joined him in this evil act have violated these minimum standards.
Most despicable is that, under the guise of “correct faith” and spirituality, they, using the names of churches and organizations, brazenly engage in acts that are “evil in God’s eyes”: distorting right and wrong, suppressing victims, depriving those in need of justice, colluding to exploit the helpless families of the victims, and exacerbating injustice and destruction.
5) The above issues aren’t issues of faith at all; they’re entirely issues of human moral conscience and violations of basic principles.
Pastor Gong Mingpeng and these colluding church leaders exploit the churches and institutions they control, leveraging their connections to form a collective power structure, brazenly engaging in evil deeds under the guise of faith. They violate both human moral conscience and faith, yet they maintain positions of spiritual leadership and establish a systemic power structure.
It’s not that they’re unaware of the injustice and destruction this will cause, nor is it that their influence is immense or their actions are deceptive. Rather, it’s that those who are “wise,” “good,” and “honest” within Toronto’s Chinese churches remain silent, compromised, and silent.
These networks of lies, fear, power, and distorted religious beliefs, and the resulting systemic power structure, appear formidable, but are in reality vulnerable to attack. Through public exposure and revelation, these dark practices simply cannot survive in the light.
6) I emphasize again:
The door to confession, repentance, reconciliation, and a path to betterment is always open to the church leaders who have “done bad things” in my family’s affairs; but this cannot be done with the intention of destroying my family and covering up the truth as a prerequisite.
2. The distorted atmosphere and “culture of silence” within the broader Chinese church environment in Toronto, and the difficulties I have encountered in recent years
1) Phenomenon 1: A climate of silence and fear under the oppression of power
Because Pastor Gong Mingpeng and his collaborators, along with certain churches and institutions, have collectively formed a vast systemic force, many pastors and leaders, even though they understand the seriousness of the issues I addressed in my “open letter,” dare not speak out publicly. Fearing they will get into trouble, they can only acknowledge the issues I pointed out privately but remain silent publicly.
The result: Voices that confront the truth and correct mistakes are suppressed by power and connections. The victims’ grievances remain unaddressed, my family continues to be wronged and destroyed, and the perpetrators continue to parade their piety and “correct faith” on the stage.
2) Phenomenon 2: Cover-up and suppression by interest groups, artificial distortions, and inaction by churches and organizations.
Some interest groups directly involved in this incident, such as the Toronto Chinese Bible Church, the Toronto Chinese Evangelical Pastoral Fellowship, and the Canadian Chinese Evangelical Ministry, collaborated in the cover-up and suppression, even resorting to legal threats.
Some within the church, aligning with these forces, twisted the truth, claiming their own marriages were in trouble, yet they insisted on blaming others.
Life Quarterly, Canada Campus Gospel Fellowship, and the pastoral team of the Toronto Chinese Bible Church, where Pastor Gong Mingpeng serves as a board member and speaker, remained silent and inactive despite my repeated reports and inquiries.
In the Chinese church I have been a part of for the past few years, even when I suggested forming a fact-finding and dialogue group to discuss issues with the church, and that we could discuss them based on biblical solutions, the pastor’s refusal to allow open discussion and his repressive attitude prevented any action.
3) Phenomenon Three: Those outside the interest group, or those who align themselves with their power, are forced into prostitution or marginalized, forced to leave.
(As I mentioned above), Pastors “B-1” and “C-1,” who previously spoke the truth about my family’s situation, acted against their conscience and align themselves with their power, forced into prostitution, given the benefits and influence offered by Pastor Gong Mingpeng.
Because the pastor of my church changed his stance on my family’s situation, others in the church followed suit, either echoing the pastor’s views or remaining silent. My family’s situation became a taboo topic, and I was isolated.
In this church environment (including the points listed below), many people became victims, including some preachers. At my branch of the Toronto Chinese Bible Church, a preacher was so oppressed that he resigned from his position and took a job as a warehouse loader to support his family, rather than remain in this circle.
4) Phenomenon Four: False beliefs, misunderstandings of scripture, and human distortions permeate the church.
“Don’t judge”—used to prevent the truth from being uncovered and to expose sin, leading people to lose discernment.
“Leave it to God”—becomes an excuse to shirk responsibility, remain silent, and fail to stop destruction.
“Submit to authority”—God has never allowed people to submit to sin, manipulation, or destruction.
“Forgive”—fails to condemn the perpetrator, but silences the victim; confuses forgiveness with stopping destruction and protecting family members.
“God will judge”—becomes an excuse to prevent justice and accountability, preventing people from fulfilling their proper role.
“Don’t bring shame to the church”—used as a gag order, obscuring the true truth: it is those who do evil who bring shame to the church, not those who expose sin.
“Love your enemies”—transforms love into a love that fails to stop sin and confuses right and wrong. It fails to acknowledge that love is unconditional, but it has principles; love itself includes “hatred of injustice.”
“Don’t seek justice for yourself”— It’s not “Do not seek justice for yourselves,” it’s “Do not take revenge for yourselves” (Chinese Standard Version). Paul also spoke out for his own grievances or appealed for justice. God never said “Do not seek justice for yourselves,” but instead emphasized the need to seek justice for widows and orphans. Yet, many Chinese Christians have taken this problematic translation of Scripture and applied it to all matters.
I want to emphasize:
First, without addressing the serious flaws of church leaders, the unilateral emphasis on the above verses and statements has perverted and distorted the “overall doctrine,” adding another distortion to the destructive forces and atmosphere of injustice.
Those outside the church, using normal logic, common sense, basic sense of right and wrong, and conscience (all of which are also given by God to the world), can easily see the problems with these statements in my family’s case. However, in Toronto’s Chinese churches, many Christians, due to brainwashing and compromise, engage in this same behavior.
5) Phenomenon Five: Conscience and basic right and wrong are the “most basic” aspects of faith, yet they are ignored and distorted, leading to a loss of integrity and honesty.
Regarding my family’s affairs, even though the public can speak freely, Toronto Chinese churches are afraid to speak out. For example:
+ Such a devastating incident has caused a family tragedy, and many people have signed a petition calling for an investigation and verification of the facts;
+ If what the person said is true, the other party must admit their mistakes, apologize, rectify the damage, and take responsibility; and vice versa.
When I have exposed the truth in certain settings or issued open letters pointing out serious issues, I have encountered Christians or pastors who have unilaterally accused me of this by citing the Bible.
In my Chinese church, even when I suggested that we could speak freely and that we could approach the other party in a biblical manner, the pastor’s repressive attitude prevented me from proceeding, and I was isolated.
The blatant distortion of right and wrong and the suppression and cover-up by directly involved church leaders and organizations have further distorted faith, conscience, and basic right and wrong, exacerbating the atmosphere of fear and “culture of silence” within Toronto Chinese churches.
What I want to emphasize is this:
Under the oppression of this “false religious concept and atmosphere of fear,” people’s conscience and basic sense of right and wrong are distorted. These are the “bottommost” aspects of faith, causing the entire faith to appear distorted and losing the integrity and honesty that people should possess.
Faced with this, Christians must speak out courageously and break this atmosphere.
6) Phenomenon 6: On one hand, people in the church leave the church out of hurt and injustice; on the other hand, the church continues to carry out “correct” activities and speak “correct” words, turning a blind eye to the suffering of these people.
This isn’t just my family’s story; in the several Chinese churches I’ve lived in, I’ve come into contact with others who have left the church out of hurt and injustice.
On one hand, these people leave the church out of hurt and injustice, becoming almost completely isolated from their original church; on the other hand, the church continues to carry out “correct” activities and speak “correct” words, such as reading the Bible and praying, discussing faith, and advocating for mutual love, while turning a blind eye to the injustice, helplessness, and suffering of those who have left. In reality, the solution to the problem is simple: have a frank conversation with each other. Whoever erred should admit and correct their mistakes, and work together to move forward.
The key to resolving the problem often lies with the “church leaders,” who either cover up the issue, distort the truth, and refuse to admit their mistakes, or use “biblical teachings” to mislead the truth and address the issue superficially, avoiding the main issue. However, because of the influence of these “church leaders,” many people are brainwashed by false beliefs and either agree with them or remain afraid to speak out, forcing victims to leave unjustly and helplessly.
7) Phenomenon 7: It’s not that people in the church don’t understand, but rather that an atmosphere of power and fear has formed, preventing people from speaking the truth “openly.”
Example 1: After receiving my open letter, a veteran pastor said, “There are indeed problems in the Toronto church, but he’s not comfortable joining.”
Example 2: Someone who left the church unjustly and helplessly told me, “You can’t deal with them. They’re too numerous and too powerful.”
Example 3: Some pastors shared their experiences of being deeply victimized and told me that they were all in cahoots and that justice was impossible.
Example 4: Someone outside the church sees these things happening and says, “These church practices are so fake.” Many outsiders don’t object to faith, as they say, “This isn’t a problem with faith, it’s a problem with people.”
8) The above not only corrupts the church’s “healthy faith environment”, but also profoundly distorts and damages faith itself, resulting in disastrous consequences.
Christians are meant to be beings from heaven, the hands, feet, and mouths of Jesus on earth, the salt and light of the world, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, healing the sick, casting out demons, saving souls, and spreading the kingdom of heaven on earth. They have the power to trample on snakes and scorpions, and are Jehovah’s warring army.
But it’s clear to all that within the broader Chinese church landscape of Toronto, evangelism and Bible study are treated as mere trappings for “correct faith,” and piety is packaged in spiritual rhetoric and religious activities, losing its influence on Toronto’s Chinese population. The light of truth cannot enter the church, and Christians are bound by erroneous beliefs and doctrines, becoming powerless. The practices of some church leaders are darker than those of the world (such as what happened in my family). How can they rise up and shine?
3. If Jesus lives among us and saw the actions of the “authorities” regarding my family and the current situation in the Toronto Chinese church, what would he do?
1) He would certainly act as he did back then:
He would be the first to overturn the table.
He would denounce the hypocrisy of the “authorities” and Pharisees in the church;
He would have compassion on the oppressed, seek out the lost, and undo the works of the devil.
2) He would certainly look upon the church with anticipation:
When darkness covers the earth, who will rise up and shine?
Who will march forth majestically for truth and righteousness?
How he longs for the people in the church to say, “I am here.”
